Q: Who is FeeTransparency.org?
A: We’re a group of Denver citizens who are concerned about the lack of transparency surrounding the new trash and sidewalk fees.
Q: I support waste diversion and a better sidewalk network. Why should I support this effort?
A: We support waste diversion and a better sidewalk network, too. We’re agnostic as to whether these programs should be funded by tax dollars or ratepayer fees. Our concern is ensuring that the public and elected officials have unbiased, objective information about these programs before they are implemented. Both the Volume-Based Pricing (VBP) and sidewalk fees have been marred by misinformation, special interests, and political whims. Transparency and full disclosure are essential for well-functioning government programs.
Q: The VBP and sidewalk fees are relatively small. Why should I care about this?
A: While the fees may seem insignificant individually, when combined with other cost increases (sales tax, property tax, utilities, general inflation, etc.), they can quickly become burdensome for many families. Moreover, the bait-and-switch tactics used to implement these fee increases are unacceptable. Denver citizens deserve fee transparency. If we don’t demand it now, our elected officials and special interests will continue to exploit us instead of operating with fiscal discipline and transparency.
Q: This is fantastic. Denver citizens deserve fee transparency and relief from Denver’s revenue-hungry bureaucracy. What can I do to help?
